ABOUT UKRAINE

Ukraine, located in the East of Europe, is the second-largest country in the continent. The country’s capital, Kyiv, whose own history can be dated back to AD 482, was the historic capital of Kievan Rus’, a powerful state in the Middle Ages that is also known as the cradle of East Slavic culture and the Ukrainian identity.

The coat of arms of Ukraine — a blue shield with a gold trident — is officially referred to the Emblem of the Royal State of Volodymyr the Great, the ruler of Kievan Rus’.

Speaking of the coat of arms, the national flag of Ukraine also symbolises the blue sky and yellow wheat field, representing the agriculture of Ukraine and its position as the granary of Europe.
Chernozem, also known as the black earth, is one of the most fertile soils in the world and an prime asset of Ukraine. The abundance of agricultural produce is key to the country’s unique culinary culture. Borscht, Chicken Kiev, Fur Coat Salad, Varenyky, Syrnyky… are only a few of many examples of Ukrainian national dishes.
